Reference data, process information, a fine-tuned calculation of setting and running times, programmable formulas, conditional wording and colors, plugins; as many innovations that will allow you to finely customize your schedule. The version 3.1 is available for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/en\/download-direct-planning\/\">download<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the examples shown in this article are available in the demonstration file \u201cUltraPack Cardboards\u201d that comes with the software in the \u201cIndustry\u201d category.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"mks_button mks_button_medium rounded\" style=\"color: #ffffff; background-color: #1e73be;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-version-3-1-a-major-evolution-for-the-production-planning.pdf\"><i class=\"fa fa-file-text\"> PDF version of the article<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>VISUAL EVOLUTIONS<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Selected jobs<\/strong> are now more visible: the black selection handles have been replaced with a shading. This increased visibility is even more significant in case of a multi-job selection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>setting time<\/strong> of a task can now feature in the schedule. It is shown in the form of a black, horizontal line under the task. Its length depends on the setting time. This is particularly true in case of complex schedules with thousands of jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>QUICKY SCHEDULE A WHOLE ROUTE<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When a new Production Order is imported from your ERP software, you may want to directly schedule all the tasks of this PO. There\u2019s a new quick action to help you do this.<\/p>\n<p>Right-click on a job to reveal the menu, go to the \u201cSchedule\u201d sub-menu which offers two new actions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule the tasks of the route. These are typically technical data targeted at featuring on particular machines only. If that doesn\u2019t do, you can create several \u201cProcess Information\u201d for the same machine. A reference data is aimed at harboring <strong>technical<\/strong> or <strong>commercial data<\/strong> that come in the form of lists. Thus you can improve the information structure of your schedule data. For example, the <strong>quantity to produce<\/strong> might be expressed <strong>in units<\/strong>, whereas the machine rate is expressed <strong>in linear meters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Up to now, <strong>Direct Planning<\/strong> could manage only one working unit. This new version provides you with 3 different kinds of working units:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The working unit to produce<\/strong>: the quantity stated in this working unit shows the production goal. The operator will enter the performed quantity in this working unit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The operative working unit<\/strong>: the quantity stated in this working unit shows the quantity run in the machine. Direct Planning computes the operative quantity from the quantity to produce and a coefficient to convert between them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The working unit for work rate entry<\/strong>: the machine rate is not necessarily stated in the operative working unit. As a matter of fact, the size of the produced item may be crucial. For example, you may have an operative unit stated in number of items, while the working unit for work rate entry is the linear meter. A coefficient stated on the task allows to convert a work rate unit to an operative unit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>IMPROVEMENT OF THE MACHINE SHEET<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These working units are now displayed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/en\/industry-planning\/industry-planning-features\/industry-planning-characteristics-of-your-machines\/\">machine sheet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2751\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-industrie-fiche-machine-unites-oeuvre-gache-variable.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-6\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2751\" class=\"wp-image-2751 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-industrie-fiche-machine-unites-oeuvre-gache-variable.png\" alt=\"Highlighted: what\u2019s new in the machine sheet.\" width=\"608\" height=\"493\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2751\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Highlighted: what\u2019s new in the machine sheet.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the computation of setting and running times was automatically performed upon work rate entry, you are now proposed a checkbox allowing you to clearly specify what you want: <strong>Enable automatic computation of durations for this machine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019ve also added a default percentage of variable waste. They aim at allowing you<strong> fine-tuning your schedule<\/strong>. They act in 4 areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The formulas for changing the <strong>setting times<\/strong> depending on technical data and precedence criteria.<\/li>\n<li>The formulas for changing the <strong>work rates<\/strong> depending on technical data.<\/li>\n<li>The formulas for building <strong>conditional wordings<\/strong> that are displayed on the schedule tickets. For example, customizing the wording according to the machine.<\/li>\n<li>The formulas for building <strong>conditional colors<\/strong> of the schedule tickets, aimed at conveying a particular semantics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_2745\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-acces-configuration-formules-programmables.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2745\" class=\"wp-image-2745 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-acces-configuration-formules-programmables-610x232.png\" alt=\"Access to the configuration of programmable formulas\" width=\"610\" height=\"232\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2745\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Access to the configuration of programmable formulas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In order to access to the programmable formulas, you have to enable them: in the \u201cGeneral Configuration\u201d of the schedule, tick the \u201cEnable programmable formulas\u201d checkbox.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When you enable programmable formulas, you switch to the \u201cexpert\u201d mode. As these formulas are written in <strong>Visual Basic<\/strong> language, you will need basic programming skills. Please feel free to contact our technical team who will help you write these formulas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>THE PROGRAMMABLE SETTING TIMES<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Depending on the business areas, the setting times may be particularly complex to value. The setting time of a machine depends on the performed <strong>operation<\/strong>, several <strong>technical data<\/strong>, and also the <strong>previous operation<\/strong> in the schedule. As a matter of fact, mounting and unmounting tools are a significant part of the setting time. The scheduler will bear in mind to group jobs sharing common technical data, in order to minimize technical changes on the machine, thus reducing the setting times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Further to the standard procedures already existing in Direct Planning, you can now write your own rules to modify the setting times. Although this advanced feature requires minimum programming skills, we have integrated an online support to help you write your rules. The horizontal, black line under the task represents the setting time, thus you can instantly visualize the efficiency of your scheduling. Please be aware that this <strong>\u201cTransition times\u201d feature will disappear from Direct Planning in the upcoming versions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>PROGRAMMABLE WORK RATES<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The programmable work rates allow you to fully master the <strong>work rates of your machines<\/strong> according to technical data, or simply to modify the existing work rates in Direct Planning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For example, you can specify coefficients to change the work rate, according to various ranges of the item to produce, in order to express the fact that the work rate has to be reduced for small parts that are less stable in machine run.<\/p>\n<p>You can also specify multiplier (or divider) coefficients of the work rate, according to specific technical data.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2753\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-industrie-formule-programmable-calcul-cadence-machine.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-12\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2753\" class=\"wp-image-2753 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.directplanning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/direct-planning-industrie-formule-programmable-calcul-cadence-machine-610x371.png\" alt=\"An example of programmable work rate: the work rate is doubled in case of a slitter with a double reel.\" width=\"610\" height=\"371\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2753\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An example of programmable work rate: the work rate is doubled in case of a slitter with a double reel.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>CONDITIONAL WORDINGS<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Direct Planning already lets you display configurable information on every line of a ticket in the schedule. This time, we\u2019re going further, allowing you to fully configure the wordings that are displayed.
